The Xerox Phaser 3450 printer is a monochrome laser printer that makes a great choice for smaller workgroups or even for printing at home. It offers good productivity for a reasonable price. Your output is not sacrificed because of your office size with this printer and neither is the quality thanks to the Xerox Phaser 3450 toner.

Specifications of the Phaser 3450 include a 266 MHz processor. It also features 36 MB of RAM standard with expansion ability up to 160 MB. Print speed is up to 25 pages printed per minute and it can get your first page out in less than 12 seconds. As always, these figures are dependent on the document being printed, but this printer definitely has a respectable output speed.

The two standard paper trays hold 500 sheets and 100 sheets respectively. An optional feeder holds an extra 500 sheets. With 1,100 sheets of paper at the ready, you will be stopping work to replace paper less often. Trays and feeder can work with legal paper, letter paper, bond, transparencies and light card stock. The trays can also handle envelopes and labels.

Two-sided printing is automatic if you choose the D or DN model of the 3450. You can do this printing on letter paper, legal, bond, light card stock and transparencies. The DN model provides Ethernet connectivity to make networking with the entire workgroup simple. Other features are standard with this model including monitoring of job status and printer status.

To replace the printer toner cartridge is easy. You have a choice of either a standard or a high output cartridge. The standard one will output approximately 5,000 pages before running out while the high output one can double this for approximately 10,000 pages. When you use the higher output toner cartridge, you also achieve a lower cost for each page printed.

A further way to save both money and toner is to pay attention to the print quality mode that you use for each job. There is a standard mode which prints at 600 dpi and a high quality mode that prints at 1,200 dpi. However, there is also a toner saver mode that prints out at 300 dpi. This is a great choice when you are sure you are not printing the final version and you want to proofread, for example.

As with every Xerox printer, the documentation provided is very thorough. You can install the print drivers easily and start using the printer immediately. Although the printer is not lightweight, it is fairly compact. This makes it relatively simple to move from place to place as needed. If you do not have the networked model, this can be quite convenient.

The speed and output may not be sufficient for a large workgroup. For smaller workgroups or for home printing, however, it provides good value for the money. The Phaser 3450 will provide a similar quality that larger offices get from their bigger printers for a lower price.
