The notable HP LaserJet P1005 printer using HP LaserJet P1005 toner seems to have been designed and manufactured by Hewlett-Packard for the purpose of delivering excellent black-and-white laser printing at a fairly good speed and with a lot of durability to go with typical HP reliability. It comes with a series of simple and intuitive controls and it can be hooked up to most any PC in a variety of ways. This makes it personal, as well as price-competitive.

As far as that print speed, most users will proclaim themselves satisfied with its 14 pages per minute. While not the speediest laser printer on the market (either by price or within segment) most users will be able to come upon typical Hewlett-Packard reliability. Additionally, pages will feed into the printer smoothly and will come out fairly rapidly. In fact, this device just looks nice and competent.

It seems clear that HP intended for the 1005 series to be used mainly as a personal-type printer on somebody’s desktop. It can connect to a PC through use of USB or parallel port capabilities. Most users today probably will prefer to use the USB port rather than the older-style parallel port. It doesn’t include the USB cable, though, so keep that in mind when buying a printer.

For such a compact printer intended mainly for computer-to-printer use, Hewlett-Packard has provided a way for it to be shared among a network through Windows Sharing. All software options, then, will be available to every user on the network. Still, it’s probably the case that this printer will end up on more than a few desktops connected to a single computer rather than a network.

Print resolution is standard Hewlett-Packard fare, coming in at a decent 600 dots per inch. Effective resolution can be as high as 1,200 dots per inch when HP’s image enhancement technology tool is employed. At any rate, when it comes to most general business applications, 600 dpi should be more than enough for almost any print job this device might be given.

Up to 250 sheets of paper can be stored within its included auto load input tray. The output tray — meaning the tray that holds what the printer has put out — can hold about half that amount. Both trays can handle a variety of different-sized paper and other media stock. It’s no problem to print out on transparencies, business cards, envelopes and certain custom-sized paper stock, as well.

When it comes to durability, the LaserJet P1005 features a monthly duty cycle of about 7,000 pages, which is excellent considering the general environment the printer is intended for. Once 7,000 pages are reached scheduled maintenance will be required, but it really is nothing more than very minor in characteristic.

In all, there’s a lot to like about the HP LaserJet P1005 printer series. It combines a nice price (listed at $167) that brings one a printer that can be easily connected to most any personal computer and will run off of a variety of Windows-based operating systems. It’s also durable and delivers excellent print product at a decent rate of speed sufficient for probably most home office or small office uses.

Small business and home office uses will appreciate the professionalism of the HP LaserJet P1005 printer toner.  Also appreciated with be the price at which one can obtain replacement HP toner via various online cartridge toner retailers.
