The Functional Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4050 Printer
The functional and efficient HP LaserJet 4050 printer does all it can to live up to its sterling reputation in the marketplace. It is able to work quite well in almost any type of environment and it’s obvious that HP designed to printer to integrate into the work group with little trouble. This monochrome laser printer also goes for a very nice price, and delivers excellent print speed and reliability.
This particular printer is part of the 4000 series within Hewlett-Packard’s lineup and it’s been designed to be upgradable, with memory and other capabilities able to be improved upon with the addition of certain optional equipment. It also comes to its user with decent print speeds at over 17 pages per minute, which should be more than enough speed for typical usage.
The 4050 can be hooked up to a computer or a workgroup via wired means — though wireless options are available at an additional charge. It hooks up to its network or workgroup via means of traditional parallel port or a serial interface port. There are optional open slots that can upgrade the printer so that it can connect to a computer or network via wireless Ethernet means, as well.
When it comes to print quality, anything coming from the 4050 is sure to be excellent across the board. That’s because it is equipped with 1200 dpi resolution. Any printing that emerges, then, will be very detailed, rich and sharp. This capability allows the 4050 to maintain a step or two lead over many of its comparably equipped competitors out on the market.
Standard onboard RAM comes in at 8 MB, though it can be increased all the way up to 200 MB with little trouble. For the usage that Hewlett-Packard has intended this printer to be able to handle, it’s a fair bet that standard memory should be more than enough to handle the kinds of print jobs being sent to the computer. Upgrade, though, if it’s going to be joined to an active network workgroup.
The HP 4050 is no piker when it comes to how many sheets of paper it can hold. It has a single auto load input tray that can hold 500 sheets and an additional 100 sheets can be inserted via a manual slot. It’s also quite versatile in the kinds and sizes of media stock that it can print on. This includes custom sizing, transparencies and envelopes as well as standard plain paper.
Duty cycle ratings for the 4050 come in at a very nice 65,000 pages, meaning that the printer will be able to produce up to 65,000 pages of printed product in a single month before requiring any sort of maintenance. It runs on Windows NT 4.0 and several other Windows platforms, by the way.
At present, a wide variety of online stores have been offering the HP LaserJet 4050 printer for between $90 and $180, depending on whether one is looking at a refurbished or even a new printer. Given that the printer has good output speed, nice reliability, and can be hooked up quite easily, there seems to be a great many features recommending it to even a single user. You will, of course, need to change the compatible laser toner occasionally. HP printer toner cartridge is cheapest online.
