What to know about the HP Color LaserJet 1500l printer with the HP 1500L printer toner cartridges comes down to knowing a bit about typical network laser printers such as this model from Hewlett-Packard. It actually is exceptionally low priced for a printer of such capability and is sure to make for a nice candidate in most any business that needs a printer that doesn’t put a huge dent in the pocketbook. It features good print speed and quality.

When it comes to that print speed, Hewlett-Packard rates the 1500l is being able to produce about 16 pages per minute of product, which is excellent in terms of monochrome printing capability. Color pages per minute is reduced down to four, but it is clear that Hewlett-Packard intends for this printer to be more of a workgroup printer that needs to do black and white and not color, so much.

Connectivity is through standard USB, with no other option available. In today’s wired world this is really no big issue. The printer doesn’t come standard with the USB cable, though, so keep that in mind when considering purchase of the 1500l. There’s a fair chance any business looking for a printer in this end of the market won’t have an IT specialist, but the connecting software makes the job easy enough to do by just about anybody.

Printed page resolution is fairly standard HP, at 600 dots per inch (dpi) with the HP Color LaserJet cartridges. This is adequate enough to ensure that most any printed page will emerge from the printer looking clean and tidy, with no blurriness or smudging in evidence. HP includes a proprietary image enhancement technology control software program to keep everything looking just as neat across most any print task.

RAM in the 1500l is typical for a printer in this segment, and its 16MB can’t be upgraded, either. It’s smart to take stock of the kind of print tasks and how many of them will need to be done at nearly the same time before settling on a printer at this low-end rating when it comes to RAM. There’s nothing out-of-the-ordinary, though. A standard 150MHz microprocessor keeps everything organized and flowing well enough.

The printer can print out on a wide variety of media types, including envelopes and transparencies and plain paper. It holds about 125 sheets of paper, so keep that in mind if the aim is to find a high paper storage printer. The maximum number of media types that can be stored can be as much as 375 pages in total, though it’s more likely that the 125-page capacity will be standard operating procedure.

When it comes to the durability and reliability of the 1500l, it’s fairly standard for a printer at this price range. Monthly duty cycle comes in at a robust 30,000 pages, meaning that it can print out that number of pages in a month before requiring any sort of maintenance. This is a true laser printer, meaning it will need four separate print cartridges, which is nothing out of the ordinary. It runs on most Windows and Mac OS platforms, too.

The HP Color LaserJet 1500l printer will work well in a small business workgroup setting that doesn’t need hugely complicated and large print files produced. It can be found for under 150 dollars online, which is a very nice price for a network color printer. It’s also durable enough and can print out at about 16 pages per minute in black-and-white, which is a nice print speed. Color comes out at 4 pages per minute, though. If you need replacement toners cartridges, which you will occasionally, search online for HP toners.  You will specifically need HP Color LaserJet 1500L cartridges to match your printer.
