Everyone likes a holiday to the beach but what you might not be aware of is how detrimental this variety of environment can be to your motorcar and wiper blades. You see despite the plethora of beautiful things to see and do at the coast there are insidious things which damage the metal and rubber on your motorcar. Another bad thing about the coast is that sand gets everywhere no matter how conscientious you are and just a single grain of sand can essentially ruin your carefully made cucumber sand wedges. Even seagull poop is very alkaline and will damage the paint job on your beautiful motorcar and birds themselves have been known to attack wiper blades for the mineral in the rubber, so it may be sensible to take the time to find out about some of the motor dangers associated with the beach before you take your next trip. Sand is a real killer to cars and boy is there a lot of it at the beach, when sand joins with water is forms a very acidic solution which can damage your wiper blades. You see although quartz itself is a bona fide weak acid it is the absence of base properties to neutralise the carbonic acid present naturally in rain water, in this way the sand grows ever more acidic and only very tough plants such as dunes can survive. Another puzzle for your wiper blades is the abrasive character of sand caught underneath the wiper blades. You see sand is made from quartz which is very small, very sharp and very hard, this material when trapped under a wiper blades acquits like an abrasive and will break the leading edge of the wiper blades, but this can also scratch the glass itself so watch out.

Another way sand can cause damage to your motorcar if you ignore the whole windscreen wipers issue is that bits can become trapped in the oil and be absorbed into the delicate internal structure of the engine block. But there’s not just sand to worry about at the beach you also have a huge amount of ultraviolet light reflected off the pale white sand and this will not just cause problems with your eyes it may also injure your windscreen wipers. Ultraviolet light breaks down the very chemical structure of organic products like rubber replacement wiper blades and even flesh, it promotes molecules to break away from one another and develope dangerous free radicals, these in turn leads to a softening of the structure at a fundamental level.

Any wipers made from rubber is at risk form this attack and repeated trips to extremely sunny areas with large amounts of sunlight will break the rubber in your wipers. The next problem is also invisible but no less severe, ozone is an invisible gas which appears naturally in the atmosphere but due to pollution its volume has increased. This gas is shot in off the coast in large quantities and can also cause problems with rubber wipers and components. In this observers advice, if you cant beat them, join them and actually buy wipers constructed from sand or silicone, these circumvent all of the problems explored above.
