Gillian Mcdonald Producing Beautiful Landscapes
Having been born in Scotland and later married there I have a great love of the Scottish landscape. The saying Absence makes the heart grow fonder is a saying I really relate to and it wasn’t until later that I was searching round our areas gallery that I saw the work of Gillian McDonald an artist that is truly skilled in encompassing the ambience of beautiful landscapes.
Her beautiful pictures are amazing encapsulating the wildness of the countryside but nestle in buildings that have a safety and solitude which provides the essence of untouched places. Gillian McDonald learnt her art at the London college of art but developed her love for the medium of water colour in Indonesia. She is renowned for her fantastic use of colour which really pulls out the essence of the scene she is trying to portray.
It was really nice to see the beautiful crags of Ben More in the background with buildings nestled in the warm and undulating landscape layed out before it. I enjoy the fact that in Gillian McDonalds paintings you often discover detail in a flower or blade of grass that links In brilliantly with other parts of the picture. I believe that Gillian McDonald herself is a keen gardener and walker, often walking different parts of the country searching for her next piece to paint.
I believe Gillian McDonald now lives in Wales where she paints her work concentrating on her water colours and producing pieces that are enjoyed the world over.
