The top wood of an acoustic guitar is by far the most important factor in the sound. This is the part with the sound hole cut into it. One of the most popular designs commonly played today is spruce wood, but since the spruce tree is becoming increasingly difficult to find, the Sitka Spruce is more often commonly played. Again, the hybrids are found using spruce for the top while using laminates for the rest of the construction.
The backs and the sides are equally as important though. The instruments developed from premium solid wood for the backs and sides tend to be more expensive, but well worth it if you are a serious player. Getting the right sound also depends on the shape and size of the instrument. It is the combination of all of this that makes the dramatic sounds that can enhance a song to almost perfection.
