No doubt we’ve heard this before. Hit me with your best shot? Well, we’re hear to tell you that it isn’t just a meaningless expression at all, and you will find this piece of ancient sock lore to be totally fascinating. The truth of the matter is that one fine, sunny day in the middle of summer, in a country far across the pond, a creative person thought of the unique concept of wearing socks on our feet – well, as opposed to wearing them on our hands, ears or heads.
Never mind trying to figure out what this person was doing wearing socks on their head; it would defy all rational thinking. Mens Socks However, suffice it to say that this person had a lightening bolt strike them with that idea and they got to work and made a whole line of socks for the feet. Fancy that, socks don’t go on your ears. With that one small change from socks on the head to socks on the feet, history was created with the footprints of man in socks. Once upon a time there really was a person who thought up the idea of putting something on their feet to keep them protected from the rough ground and other cuts and scrapes.
Great idea when you stop to think about it given that just about everyone these days does wear socks for everything from keeping their feet warm to keeping them dry. In terms of foot coverings, socks became a monster hit in the world of fashion and that is clear even today and will continue on into the foreseeable future. What on earth would any of us do if we did not have socks to wear on our feet to keep our shoes and boots from giving us blisters? If we didn’t wear socks, heaven’s knows what the alternative would be.
At one time it was animal skins, huge tough leaves, rough cloth and even wool. Every idea we’ve discussed is a good one, but they all do wear out over time. This isn’t to say that you don’t walk a lot of miles in socks and they don’t wear out, because they do – that is unless your dog chews holes in them before the natural end of their sock lives. Ladies Knee High Socks So if we didn’t have socks, we would wear what? I am thinking we’d be into some kind of rubber-soled slip-on that looked like a neoprene diving suit boot. Not very fashionable unfortunately.
