Calendar Trends In The Uk: Beryl Cook Art, Cliff Richard & Manchester
It has come to that time of year where people are getting excited about the New Years Eve celebrations and the start of 2009. With the dawn of the year people are starting to turn their attention to getting themselves a new calendar for 2009. Calendars are a great gift for the New Year and there are a wide range of calendars available that you can find one to suit anyones personality.
Every year you get the standard calendars with lingerie models, Premiership football clubs, cute animals and more but in Britain we also have a habit of buying quirky and strange calendars. Calendars can represent the broad range of personalities that there are in Britain and the Calendar club regularly report on the surprising and not so surprising calendars that are a big hit.
Artist calendars are very popular whether they are painted landscapes, photos of people and places, portraits or abstract art. Artwork calendars are either a selection of artwork by a single artist or a collection of art prints by a whole host of artists. Beryl Cook is an extremely fashionable British artist from Plymouth, who has a very successful calendar featuring Beryl Cook prints. Other UK born artists like Tim Bulmer and Doug Hyde also have their work featured in a collection of British artists work.
Landscapes are also a firm favourite and come in a selection of styles. You tend to get a lot of calendars that feature photographs of areas of outstanding natural beauty in the UK and these usually look like an advertisement for British walking holidays and seaside towns. There are so many examples of areas like Bournemouth and Poole beaches, people walking in the Lancashire meadows and english castles. You will also find cityscapes featuring many of the United Kingdom’s largest cities and towns in some of the most popular streets in these locations. London, Cardiff and Manchester are often featured because they have many famous tourist attractions and you also get to see all the Manchester restaurants and London buses.
As for the quirky calendars, Britain has a history of producing interesting calendars to raise money for charity. British people also have a habit of taking their clothes off and recent additions have been the naked farmers as well as the almost naked pictures of Women’s Institute members, which then became a film. In 2009 tractors are a popular theme, with one calendar having a different picture of a tractor for every day of the year. As well as this there are the dogs trying out yoga and water skiing and goats too are a very popular calendar to have in 2009. The king of the calendars that sells by the bucket load each year and hasn’t been out of the top 10 for the past 25 years and that man is Cliff Richard!
